How we score rest

We track a dynamic Fatigue & Recovery Index — a Rest Status score from 0 to 100 that changes day by day as a team plays, travels, and rests.

  • Teams start the season fully rested at R = 100.
  • Every game drains 35 points. A back-to-back needs no special penalty — with no rest day in between, a team simply tips off the second night still carrying that full drain.
  • Rest days restore points, but not evenly: soreness peaks the day after a game, so the first day back gives only +20, while the second and third rebound harder — +40 at home, +30 on the road. Capped at 100, so about three full days off returns a team to fully recovered and extra rest gives no further edge.
  • Location follows real logistics: a team stays home until the day before a road game and flies home right after one, so the days before a trip count as home recovery, not hotel nights.
  • The flight into a road game costs a travel-day toll that grows with flight hours and time-zone change — and eastward trips, harder to adjust to, cost more than westward. That's the travel & jet-lag part of the edge.
  • Wear accumulates: several short-rest or long-travel games in a row push a team lower than any single game would on its own.

The R score at tip-off is shown for each team; the game stamp reflects the delta between the two scores
